About
FishInsight is a reference library documenting measurable behaviours relevant to welfare assessment in farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar).
The site is organised along a simple Species → Behaviour hierarchy. Each behaviour page follows the same structure: a short definition, the conditions that modulate the behaviour (each with a directional effect), a candid “what we know / what remains unknown” summary, an annotated video clip, and citations. The aim is a compact, honest, browsable evidence base rather than an exhaustive review.
It is written for three audiences at once — researchers designing or interpreting welfare studies, fish farmers looking for practical behavioural cues, and regulators who need a defensible reference. The library is bilingual (English and Norwegian) and maintained by a single editor.
See Methods for how behaviours are selected and scored, References for the source literature, and Contact to get in touch.
